Humm, got this camera last year when it first dropped. Solid overall—easy to set up, and the privacy shield is a nice touch. I mainly use it to keep an eye on my dog when I’m at work. Only downside? The subscription. Without it, you lose most of the recording features

How’s the motion detection? I’m thinking of grabbing one to monitor the front room, but I’ve read mixed reviews. Does it go off for random stuff, like shadows or lights?

Had mine for 6 months. Motion detection’s decent, but yeah, it can be a little sensitive. I had it alerting me to my cat walking by at 2 a.m. You can adjust the sensitivity in the app, but it takes some trial and error

I was gonna get this, but ended up going with the Eufy Indoor Cam 2K instead. Better resolution (2K > 1080p), and it doesn’t force you into a subscription. Plus, local storage options are clutch if you hate paying monthly.

Nway, i dont think it's a good deal, if you want something simple to use and you’re already on Alexa or Google Assistant, Arlo’s integration is smooth. If you’re techier and want more control, though, Eufy or even Blink might be better.

Arlo Essential Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) - Should You Buy It?

Highlights and Advantages

  • Crisp 1080p HD video for clear image quality.
  • Built-in privacy shield for added security and peace of mind.
  • Simple setup and user-friendly interface for ease of use.

Similares

  • Google Nest Cam (Indoor): Offers superior cloud storage options and deeper integration with other Google smart home devices.
  • Eufy Indoor Cam 2K: Provides higher resolution video recording at 2K.
  • Amazon Blink Mini: Often boasts a more budget-friendly price point.

What You Need to Know Before Buying

Before purchasing any indoor security camera, including the Arlo Essential Indoor Camera, consider the following:

  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Ensure you have a strong and stable Wi-Fi signal in the area where you plan to place the camera. Weak Wi-Fi can lead to dropped connections and unreliable performance.
  • Power Requirements: This camera is wired, so you'll need a convenient power outlet nearby. Check cable length and placement requirements.
  • Storage and Subscription: Understand the camera's storage options (cloud or local). Some features may require a subscription service. Review storage plans carefully.

Extra Tips

  1. Read recent customer reviews to get a sense of real-world performance and potential issues.
  2. Compare specifications across different models to find the best features for your specific needs.
  3. Think about your home's layout and identify the optimal camera placement for maximum coverage.
  4. Consider whether you need additional features like two-way audio or smart home integration.
  5. Check the warranty and return policy before making a purchase.
