Solid option, but if you want even faster speeds, check out the Samsung T9. Slightly better performance and Samsung’s software is a bit more polished. Crucial is great if you just need raw storage, though.

Crucial X9 Pro USB-C 3.2 Portable SSD: 2TB - Should You Buy It?

Highlights and Advantages

  • Blazing-fast read and write speeds for quick file transfers.
  • Durable and compact design for portability and protection.
  • Reliable data storage with robust security features.

Similares

  • Samsung T7 Portable SSD: Often boasts slightly faster read speeds than the Crucial X9 Pro.
  • SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD: May offer a slightly more rugged, drop-resistant design.
  • WD My Passport SSD: Typically comes with a longer warranty period than the Crucial X9 Pro.

What You Need to Know Before Buying

Before purchasing a portable SSD like the Crucial X9 Pro, you need to consider:

  • Interface Compatibility: Ensure your devices (computers, laptops, tablets) have a USB-C port that supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 or at least USB 3.1 Gen 2 for optimal performance. USB 3.0 will work, but at a significantly slower speed. Check the specifications of your devices.
  • Storage Capacity: 2TB is a good amount of storage for many users, but consider your needs. Will you need more or less space?
  • Operating System Compatibility: While most portable SSDs are generally compatible with Windows, macOS, and even some Android devices, it’s always a good idea to check the manufacturer's specifications for full compatibility with your intended operating systems.

Extra Tips

  1. Read user reviews from various sources to get a well-rounded perspective on the product's performance and reliability.
  2. Compare the warranty offered by Crucial with the warranties offered on similar products.
  3. Consider the overall cost of ownership including the price of the drive itself and any potential costs for data recovery services should something go wrong.
  4. If you need encryption, check if the drive itself offers hardware encryption, or if you will need to rely on software encryption.
  5. Check for any included software or management utilities that might be useful for drive health monitoring or data management.
