  • Does anyone know if it uses PWM? Is it flicker free? Thanks

  • Thinking about snagging it, tbh. price is steep, but it looks insane. Anyone here using it?

I’ve had it for a few months. Colors are okay, uknow and 144Hz makes everything buttery smooth. Gaming’s a dream on it, but dude, make sure your GPU can handle it. 4K at high refresh is no joke.

  • @shoyulight Nov 18

I’ve got a 4070 Ti. think that’s enough? Mostly playing stuff like idk cyberpunk and starfield lol

shuld be fine, but donn’t expect max settings with ray tracing at 144fps in those. You’ll probably need DLSS for smooth gameplay. aaaand the monitor’s HDR isn’t the best. like good for gaming, but not true cinema and stuff

  • @shoyulight Nov 18

Fair. How’s the build? I’ve had monitors with flimsy stands before and it drives me nutzzzz

Solid as a rock!! Adjustable stand is premium, tilt, swivel, height, you name it. Ports are solid too, but make sure you’ve got a good DisplayPort cable for 4K 144Hz. HDMI won’t cut it unless it’s 2.1.

  • @shoyulight Nov 18

    Sounds good overall. thanksss man

  • hum yes, it uses PWM but is designed to reduce flicker i guess, so it should be pretty flicker free for most people.

38" ASUS ROG Swift PG38UQ: Should You Buy It?

Highlights and Advantages

  • Stunning 38-inch ultrawide 3840 x 1600 IPS display with vibrant colors and incredible detail.
  • Blazing-fast 144Hz refresh rate with support for NVIDIA G-SYNC and Adaptive-Sync, eliminating screen tearing and stuttering.
  • Premium build quality and features including a highly adjustable stand and numerous connectivity options.

Similars

  • Samsung Odyssey G9: Offers a higher resolution (5120 x 1440) and even more immersive ultrawide experience, though at a higher price point and potentially with slightly higher input lag.
  • LG 38GN950-B: Features a similar ultrawide aspect ratio and high refresh rate, potentially at a lower cost, but might not match the ASUS ROG Swift's color accuracy and build quality.
  • Alienware AW3821DW: A strong competitor with excellent image quality and a robust stand; however, it might lack some of the advanced features found in the ASUS ROG Swift, such as specific HDR support.

What You Need to Know Before Buying

Before purchasing a high-end monitor like the ASUS ROG Swift PG38UQ, consider these technical aspects:

  • Graphics Card Compatibility: Ensure your graphics card can handle the high resolution (3840 x 1600) and refresh rate (144Hz) without significant performance bottlenecks. You'll need a powerful GPU to run games smoothly at this setting.
  • Desktop Space: This is a large monitor; measure your desk space to ensure it will comfortably fit and allow for sufficient room for your keyboard and other peripherals.
  • Connectivity: Check the available ports (DisplayPort, HDMI) to match your system's output capabilities. High refresh rates often require DisplayPort.
  • HDR Support: While it supports HDR, verify your games and system support the specific HDR standard the monitor uses for optimal experience.

Extra Tips

  1. Read professional reviews from reputable tech websites to get a broader perspective on performance and potential drawbacks.
  2. Consider your typical usage scenarios – gaming, content creation, or general use – to determine if the features justify the price point.
  3. Check for potential warranty options and return policies before committing to a purchase.
  4. Compare the monitor's specifications to your existing equipment to ensure compatibility.
  5. Explore user reviews on forums and online retail sites for real-world feedback on long-term performance and potential issues.
