I had to scoop one up. It was between this and the Pioneer DMH-W3000NEX. I went with this one for the HD radio and 5 volt outputs via RCA.

It’s a car stereo, but more than just radio and music. You get a touchscreen that connects to your phone for stuff like Apple CarPlay or Android Auto maps, calls, messages, even apps.

yup and it boosts your car’s sound system too. Like, if you care about audio quality, this thing processes sound way better than basic factory stereos.

Kenwood eXcelon DMX709S 6.8" Touchscreen Car Stereo Multimedia Receiver: Should You Buy It?

This analysis will help you decide if the Kenwood eXcelon DMX709S is the right car stereo for you, focusing on its features, comparable alternatives, and crucial considerations before purchase. Price and discounts are excluded from this evaluation.

Highlights and Advantages:

  • High-resolution 6.8" touchscreen for intuitive control and vibrant visuals.
  • Excellent sound quality thanks to advanced audio processing capabilities.
  • Extensive connectivity options, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Similares:

  • Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX: Offers built-in navigation, a feature absent in the Kenwood DMX709S.
  • Alpine iLX-F309: Often boasts a slightly more refined user interface and quicker response times.
  • Sony XAV-AX5000: May provide better integration with certain Sony car audio accessories.

What You Need to Know Before Buying:

Before purchasing any car stereo, especially a high-end unit like the Kenwood eXcelon DMX709S, consider the following:

  • Vehicle Compatibility: Ensure the stereo's mounting dimensions and wiring harness are compatible with your car's dashboard. Consult the Kenwood website's fit guide.
  • Amplifier Power Output: Check if the stereo's built-in amplifier power is sufficient for your existing speakers or planned upgrade. You might need an external amplifier for better performance.
  • Existing Car Features: Verify if the stereo's features (like steering wheel controls) are compatible with your vehicle’s existing audio system.
  • Installation Complexity: Factor in the complexity of the installation process. Professional installation is recommended for many features such as rear-view camera hookup.

Extra Tips:

  1. Read online reviews from multiple sources before committing to a purchase.
  2. Check for extended warranty options from the retailer or manufacturer.
  3. Consider the unit's future-proofing capabilities: will it support future software updates and tech standards?
  4. Compare the user interface and menu structure with other models before your final decision.
  5. Evaluate the overall aesthetic appeal of the unit to see if it complements your car's interior design.
