Extremely sluggish tablet going into 2025. Spend the extra $50 on the 10th gen. The 9th should be under $100 now, it can barely run Safari without reloading tabs

I agree I'd go with 10th gen for the extra $50 but I have two 9th gen iPads at home and they run fine with web and gaming workloads. Your battery might be going or perhaps storage is nearly full.

  • @JenaVittiyesterday

Not my experience. Maybe sluggish on demanding games but everything else is snappy. ps: I don't use Safari but I just gave it a try to test out your comment. I am able to open 5 tabs on different major websites and switch between them with no issues.

Not my experience either. Mine is snappy with no lag with streaming videos, web, Reddit, etc. Last iPad with a headphone jack but on the downside it still uses lightning cable.

  • @Gabeeyesterday

Yep, lightning port is the biggest downside to this tablet.

Yep. Works very well for most use cases. Amazing that the price has held at $200 for almost 3 years now!

Apple iPad 10.2-inch (2021, 9th Generation) - Should I Buy It?

Highlights and Advantages

  • Powerful A13 Bionic chip delivers smooth performance for everyday tasks and light gaming.
  • Crisp 10.2-inch Retina display offers vibrant visuals for media consumption and browsing.
  • Long battery life allows for extended use on a single charge.

Similares

  • iPad mini (6th generation): More portable and lightweight, ideal for one-handed use.
  • iPad Air (5th generation): Offers a more powerful chip (M1) and a more advanced display.
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S8: Features a higher resolution display and potentially better multitasking capabilities depending on the specific model.

What You Need to Know Before Buying

Before purchasing any tablet, consider the following technical aspects:

  • Storage Capacity: 64GB might be limiting for some users. Determine if you'll need more storage for apps, photos, and videos. Consider cloud storage solutions if 64GB is insufficient.
  • Connectivity: Verify that the Wi-Fi model meets your internet needs. If cellular connectivity is crucial, explore the cellular models available.
  • Compatibility: Ensure any accessories you intend to use (keyboard, Apple Pencil, etc.) are compatible with the 9th generation iPad. Check Apple's website for compatibility information.

Extra Tips

  1. Read reviews from multiple sources to get a well-rounded perspective on user experiences.
  2. Compare the iPad 10.2-inch (2021) to newer models to see if the price difference justifies the upgrades.
  3. Consider purchasing a protective case to safeguard your investment.
  4. Explore different applications and software to see how well they integrate with the iPad's operating system (iPadOS).
  5. Think about your primary use case. Is it for media consumption, note-taking, gaming, or something else? This will help you determine if the 9th-generation iPad meets your needs.
