Battery life is where it really disappoints me. I barely get 4-5 hours just writing reports and browsing. For something this size, I expected better. My old ASUS VivoBook lasted longer on the same workload.

Agree 100%. Soldered RAM on a 16-inch laptop is just lame. I almost went with the Acer Aspire 5, and honestly, kinda wishing I had—it’s way easier to upgrade.

Got you. The Ryzen 5 is great, but the thermals on this thing are questionable.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 16" Laptop: Should You Buy It?

Highlights and Advantages

  • Powerful Ryzen 5 8645HS processor for smooth multitasking and demanding applications.
  • Crisp and vibrant 16" IPS display with good color accuracy for an enjoyable viewing experience.
  • Fast 512GB SSD storage for quick boot times and application loading.

Similar Products

  • ASUS VivoBook: Often offers a slightly longer battery life compared to the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5.
  • Acer Aspire 5: May come with slightly better upgrade options in terms of RAM and storage.
  • HP Envy x360: If you need a 2-in-1 convertible laptop with touchscreen functionality.

What You Need to Know Before Buying

Before purchasing this or any laptop, consider the following technical aspects:

  • Operating System: Check if the pre-installed OS (likely Windows 11) meets your needs and software compatibility requirements.
  • Connectivity: Ensure it has the necessary ports (USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, etc.) for your peripherals. Verify the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities meet your needs.
  • Dimensions and Weight: Measure your workspace to ensure the laptop's physical size is comfortable for you. Consider its weight for portability if you plan to carry it frequently.

Extra Tips

  1. Read online reviews from multiple sources to get a balanced perspective on user experiences.
  2. Check the warranty offered by the manufacturer and retailer.
  3. Consider whether the 16GB RAM will be sufficient for your intended use. If you anticipate running very demanding applications you may need to check whether there is potential for RAM expansion (although SSD is easier to upgrade).
  4. Compare the specifications to laptops with similar price points.
  5. Think about future-proofing your purchase by considering the potential to upgrade certain components (if possible).
