I grabbed this last week. Ngl, the curve is a game changer for sim racing. Colors pop, and response time’s solid. My only issue is the stand. It’s stable, but doesn’t adjust height, so I had to stack books. Still worth it tho.

Would this work well for console gaming? Mainly ps5. Heard mixed reviews on using qhd monitors for that

  • @jj7149 Jan 22

Nah, PS5 games don’t always support QHD, so it might not look as sharp. Better go for a native 4K if u mainly play console.

Thx for the heads up. Might stick to my tv for now. Sounds like this is more for pc gamers anyway.

It’s like sitting inside a bowl sometimes.

  • Ok, but why not just get the dell s2721dgf instead? It’s also 27", qhd, 165hz. Way better panel quality imo

For the price, this Samsung is solid, but that VA panel ghosting tho… anyone notice it during dark scenes?

Yeah, it’s there, but kinda depends on the game. Fine for bright games like Fortnite, but horror games? Yikes.

Samsung Odyssey G5 27” QHD Curved Gaming Monitor: Should You Buy It?

Highlights and Advantages:

  • Stunning QHD (2560x1440) resolution for crisp, detailed visuals.
  • 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time for incredibly smooth gameplay.
  • Immersive 1000R curved display for enhanced viewing experience.

Similars:

  • LG 27GP83B-B: Offers a higher refresh rate (165Hz) for even smoother motion.
  • ASUS ROG Strix XG279Q: Features HDR support for a wider color gamut and improved contrast.
  • MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD: Boasts a faster response time (0.5ms) for minimizing ghosting and blur.

What You Need to Know Before Buying:

Before purchasing a gaming monitor like the Samsung Odyssey G5, consider the following technical aspects:

  • Connectivity: Check the available ports (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB) to ensure compatibility with your gaming PC or console.
  • VESA Compatibility: Confirm VESA mount compatibility if you plan to use a monitor arm or wall mount.
  • Panel Type: Understand the differences between VA, IPS, and TN panels to determine which best suits your preferences regarding color accuracy, response time, and viewing angles. Research what type of panel the Samsung Odyssey G5 uses and compare this to your preferences.

Extra Tips:

  1. Read professional reviews from reputable tech websites for a more comprehensive evaluation.
  2. Consider the size and placement of the monitor in your setup. 27 inches might be too large or small for your desk or viewing distance.
  3. Check the warranty offered by the manufacturer and retailer.
  4. Look at user reviews to see reported issues or long-term experiences.
  5. Compare the features and specifications carefully with other monitors within your budget.
