Polk Audio Monitor XT20 High-Resolution Bookshelf Loudspeakers (Black, Pair)
I picked these up a year ago after being impressed after picking up a pair of XT15s.
I'm no audiophile, but I've been really happy with these as (large) desktop speakers :)
Bought the XT 20 pair for rear bookshelves last year for $150 pair. Using them on a bookshelf stand with Polk Monitor Series II speakers in the fronts.
The listing is technically incorrect, but in a good way. The woofer is actually 6.5" instead of 5.25", and plays down to 38Hz (which means more bass). It's correct on adorama.com website, which is the link. However, I think polk audio hasn't updated there website. You can see the video on cheapaudioman.com youtube, he measured from screw to screw and it's a 6.5" woofer
Polk Audio Monitor XT20: Should You Buy?
Highlights and Advantages
- Exceptional clarity and detail across a wide frequency range, delivering a truly high-resolution listening experience.
- Compact and versatile design, suitable for various room sizes and setups.
- Durable construction and high-quality components ensure long-lasting performance and enjoyment.
Similares
- Klipsch RP-500M: Offers a more powerful bass response than the XT20, ideal for users who prioritize impactful low-end frequencies.
- Wharfedale Diamond 12.1: Provides a slightly warmer and more forgiving sound signature compared to the potentially bright XT20.
- Q Acoustics 3020i: May offer a wider soundstage and a more expansive imaging experience than the XT20.
What You Need to Know Before Buying
Before purchasing bookshelf speakers like the Polk Audio Monitor XT20, consider the following technical aspects:
- Amplifier Power: Ensure your amplifier or receiver can adequately power the speakers without distortion. Check the speaker's impedance rating and match it to your amplifier's specifications.
- Room Acoustics: The acoustics of your listening space significantly impact sound quality. Consider the size of your room and potential placement issues, such as reflections or standing waves. Experiment with different speaker placements to optimize performance.
- Speaker Placement: Experiment with toe-in (angling the speakers towards the listening position) to find the optimal sweet spot for imaging and soundstaging.
Extra Tips
- Read professional reviews from reputable audio sources to get a broader perspective on the speaker's performance.
- If possible, listen to the speakers yourself in a controlled environment before purchasing to determine if their sound signature matches your preferences.
- Consider the aesthetic appeal of the speakers to ensure they blend well with your existing setup.
- Check the warranty offered by the manufacturer for peace of mind.
- Explore different speaker stands or placement options to optimize the sound quality and aesthetic appeal in your listening environment.
